It was a week of surprising losses and first of the season wins last week as both Maud and New Boston earned their first wins of the season and Hooks and DeKalb were outscored for the second week in a row.
The one constant so far this season has been the Redwater Dragons, who are now 3-0 after a 40-7 victory over Harleton last Friday night.
The Dragons notched their third win paced by 168 yards passing and a touchdown from QB Braelan Morgan and 151 yards rushing and three scores from fullback Cooper Bailey.
The red hot Redwater squad looks to go to 4-0 this week as they host the 1-2 Sabine Cardinals. The Cardinals are fresh off a one touchdown loss to Mineola last week, the same Mineola team that was squashed by Hooks in the first game of the season.
These Dragons are firing on all cylinders so far this season, and Sabine just doesn’t have the firepower to quench the Dragons’ flames. The Dragons stay perfect.
The Maud Cardinals earned their first win of the season last Friday and hope to even their record at 2-2 as they challenge the Como- Pickton Eagles.
The Eagles come in at 2-1 and had a 28-8 win over a winless Cumby squad a week ago, but these two teams are evenly matched. The Eagles have not score more than 28 points in a game this season, and if the Maud offense stays on track things will shake out on the right side for Maud.
Let’s say home field advantage tips the scales and Maud wins.
The New Boston Lions also notched their first W of 2026 last week as they celebrated homecoming week with a convincing 35-7 win over Elysian Fields.
The chances for the Lions to go to 2-2 are very favorable this week as they travel to face a Grace Community team that was trounced 70-21 by Troup a week ago.
The Lions saw their offense come to life last week and you can expect even more production this week against a Cougars team that allows a lot of points on the board. Look for the Lions to be the king of the jungle this week and roar over the Cougars by a big margin. Lions Eat!
The James Bowie Pirates and the DeKalb Bears have both lost their last two after opening their seasons with a win, but you can expect both of them to even things up at 2-2 this week.
The Pirates will look to celebrate homecoming week with a victory over the winless Celeste Blue Devils, who are fresh of a 32-6 loss last week to Linden-Kildare.
The James Bowie rushing trio should run roughshod over the Celeste defense and Potter, Gipson and Santos should each see triple digit numbers on the ground again.
Bottom line…Pirates beat the devil out of Celeste.
The DeKalb Bears offense has been sluggish in the last two weeks but fans say QB Maddux Burgin saw a return to form against Garrison and if that rings true this Friday night, the Bears should grab a win over Idabel this week.
The Idabel Warriors were not so fierce a week ago as they were shutout 50-0 by Broken Bow.
The Bears need this win to get some momentum going for the start of the district schedule in two weeks, and odds are they will get it.
Bears win.
