Bowie County Elections Office Explains What It Means To Be On The Suspense List

The Bowie County Elections Administrator is reminding registered voters that placement on the Texas voter registration “suspense list” does not mean a voter has been removed from the voter rolls or is ineligible to vote.

The suspense list is used when election officials have been unable to confirm a voter’s current residential address. This can occur when any official election-related correspondence is returned by the USPS as undeliverable, and when a voter does not respond to an address-confirmation notice.

Importantly, a voter on the suspense list remains a registered voter and retains the right to participate in elections.

Voters are encouraged to check their registration information before Election Day and update their address if necessary. Voters who have moved should make sure their registration reflects their current residence before the applicable voter-registration deadline.

Voters can check their registration status and obtain additional information through the official Texas Secretary of State voter -registration resources, or if a voter still has questions about their registration status, they can contact the Bowie County Voter Registrar’s office at 903.628.6803.

A voter who remains on the suspense list at the time of voting will be required to complete a Statement of Residence at the polling place. Once the voter completes the required process and establishes that they are eligible to vote in the county and precinct, they may cast their ballot.

“We want voters to understand that being on the suspense list does not mean they cannot vote,” said Pat McCoy, Bowie County Voter Registrar. “We encourage everyone to verify their registration information now, especially if they have recently moved” For information specific to Bowie County, including registration assistance and local election resources, visit www.bowiecounty. org/1239/Elections.
