Did you ever go to the fridge to pour yourself a drink and you open the door and grab the pitcher only to find that there is just a tiny bit left in the pitcher to pour?
Ya, I hate that too.
It leaves you looking for the person who left the pitcher in there that way, and then scrambling to try and find something to satisfy your thirst, and in that situation you might find yourself opting for anything that satisfies, instead of that cool, refreshing lemonade that you actually wanted.
Life can be like that sometimes.
We set out to do the good stuff, to be positive, to make the world a better place, but sometimes the fountain runs dry.
This ol’ world has the ability to drain us of our good intentions, and the energy to even want to pour out the blessings that we would usually strive for, and instead, we can sometimes find ourselves pouring out a nasty brown, chlorine smelling foulness like you get out of the tap following a busted pipe.
It happens to all of us from time to time I believe.
The ugliness might start as a tiny trickle, but as the day goes by and it is filled with stubbing your toe on the coffee table, the dog getting into the trash can, followed by being late to work while simultaneously realizing you are out of gas.
Then you pump that gas and it costs you your firstborn child and your debit card catches on fire and before you know it you are in a bad mood.
That’s when the probability of pouring out that non-lemonade onto someone else’s life has the same probability as the Dallas Cowboys choking in the playoffs.
Is there a solution to the problem? Ya.
Are we always going to look for the solution before we explode like a coke bottle full of Mentos? No. Perhaps the trick to not exploding lies inside.
A friend of mine, Missy Breshears, comes to mind as I think about this quandary.
Missy, you could say, has lived two lives. Those of us who love her, and that number is astronomical, have always loved her… regardless.
But, and I am fairly sure she will agree with me, that five years ago this week, a new Missy was born.
You see, the old Missy was pretty great. I mean, really. But five years ago, God took that Missy and through one of the most traumatic events a person could live through, He made a new Missy, a new Lane, and a new life.
Missy and Lane took what they experienced and now use it to pour rivers of lemonade out to everyone around them.
They took what Satan meant for evil, and turned it into a path to Heaven.
Instead of being the coke bottle full of Mentos, Missy and Lane took their ingredients and made sweet, sweet lemonade to share with the world.
In my opinion, it is fairly safe that the pitcher in their fridge of life will never be empty when someone reaches to get a drink from it.
And I don’t know about you, but the world needs more of those ingredients.
Psalm 34:8 “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
