There is a song from quite a few years back put out by one of my favorite Christian artists, Michael W. Smith.
The song is called “Healing Rain.” It came to mind this morning as a little bit of that wet stuff did fall in our area this last week, and I believe it is safe to say that nobody in their right mind around here found a reason to complain.
Now, some folks did get more than others, and there could be some folks out there that wish they had gotten more, but it is fairly safe to say that everyone is glad to have seen raindrops fall where they have not fallen for quite a long time.
In the end, healing rain did fall, and perhaps it fell on you in more ways than one.
It seems to me that healing rain can come in several different forms.
Maybe it is the wet stuff that falls from the clouds to come and water the crops, fill the reservoirs and the rivers and make little puddles for kids to play in.
Or maybe your healing rain came in the form of showers of blessings. As the song goes, “Showers of blessing, Showers of blessing we need; Mercy-drops round us are falling, But for the showers we plead.”
Think of it like this if you will. How good will the lemonade taste if it is made from showers of blessing...raindrops from Heaven? It seems to me that would be some refreshing lemonade.
But, what is required of us to be allowed to stand under those showers of blessing and be soaked with that rain from Heaven itself? Well, the naswer might be right there in the same song. The lyrics say, “Now as to God we’re confessing,Now as on Jesus we call.”
If you read your BIble enough, you know that with just about every blessing, every miracle ever done by our Jesus, He required something of us. The blind man had to allow Jesus to rub dirt on his face. The fisherman had to cast their net after a night of catching nothing. The apostles had to gather up the 12 empty baskets before they could see them filled to feed the 5,000.
Those there at Lazurus’ grave had to move the stone. And often Jesus only asked the recipient of a miracle to have the faith it could occur. Like the leper. He only had to believe.
Maybe that is why we sometimes don’t receive the miracle we are looking for, and then we question Him for not making it happen. Perhaps we should instead ask ourselves why we pray for something that we don’t really believe He can make happen.
When I say that, the preaching is coming right back at me. If we are honest with ourselves, how many times do we pray for something, not really expecting it to happen.
Thing about this. Jesus said in John 12, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
Yet, how many of us today believe that we can do greater things than Jesus did?
How many of us really believe that we could heal a blind person, or raise someone from the dead?
But, here is what I am really trying to say.
Maybe we have the power, through our faith in Him, to make the healing rain fall on our lives. Maybe it is not so much that we can’t have it, but that we don’t really believe we can have it?
Maybe the answers to the dry, parched souls of our hearts is the lack of faith, and we simply need to grow that faith.
And here is where our faith and His faith are symbiotic. Our faith grows though His seeds and His healing rain, that are all found in His Word. I speak to myself here, maybe a lot of you too, but how do we expect things to grow, when we don’t feed and water it with His word?
“There shall be showers of blessing, If we but trust and obey; There shall be seasons refreshing,If we let God have His way.”
