The district schedule continues this Friday night with perhaps some easier games for some as the Bears will travel to Hughes Springs for a game they should win, and Hooks should notch another win as Queen City comes to town.
The toughest game on the schedule is undoubtedly on New Boston’s schedule as the Lions travel to Daingerfield.
Daingerfield is always a tough place to play but let’s not forget to look at their record this year.
The Tigers have won only one game in 2026 and that was at Hughes Springs. Coming off an absolute murder hornet stomping at the hands of Hooks, the Tigers can be beat.
The Lions did not have a great game offensively last week against the Hornets, so they will really have to step up their game to grab a district win in Daingerfield.
The Hornets however did post some big offensive numbers last Friday as QB Kavon Stigers rushed for 234 yards and four scores and RB Corbin Edwards amassed 172 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns as well, This week, odds are those numbers will be even higher as they host a Queen City team that is winless in district and gives up a lot of points.
The Bulldogs defense has allowed more than 40 points in each of their last three contests and after Hooks put up 70 against the Tigers, there is a good chance that Coach Todd Ledford could get to rest some of his starters in the second half of this win. Hooks wins big to go to 3-0 in district.
The Bears should also improve their district mark this week, but perhaps not as easily as Hooks. Going into Hughes Springs always brings as a challenge as home field advantage works a lot for the Mustangs. Hughes Springs earned a narrow district win over QC last week, but they were corralled 55-7 by Daingerfield earlier in this campaign.
Bryuan Garden rushed for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns last week against Redwater, and Burgin added 141 and a score himself to help beat the Dragons.
Cedric Owens and Mal Stephens also added touchdowns to the tally.
If the Burgin/Gardner duo puts up those kinds of numbers again this Friday, and they should, the Bears should come back north with another district win to keep pace with Hooks.
In 2-A local football, the James Bowie Pirates shipwrecked Linden-Kildare last week by a score of 54-14 as both the offense and defense played at the top of their game.
The Pirates continue to grind it out on the ground with Nate Potter and Cole Gipson again putting up big numbers.
Against L-K, Potter led the way with 164 yards and three touchdowns, with Gipson racking up 184 yards and a pair of scores. Jordan McKnight also stepped into the act with 88 yards on just six touches and a pair of touchdowns.
Potter was also in beast mode on defense, with 11 tackles, two for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Also, on the defensive side of the ball, Connor Berbig, Casey Snow and Brayden Tinsley each had eight tackles in the big win. To top off the defensive effort, Gipson and Ranson Bailey added an interception each.
This week’s matchup is much tougher for the Pirates, as they travel to Clarksville to take on a Tigers squad that is 4-2 on the season and fresh off a 47-16 win over Maud. The Pirates will need to control the ball and the game clock and see Potter and Gipson do their thing in a big way to come home with a district win. I think the Pirates will do it and grind out a one score win to go to 2-0 in district.
The scoring troubles continue for the Maud Cardinals and things won’t get any easier this week as they face the Wildcats of Big Sandy.
The Wildcats are 4-2 on the season and they got there by scoring a lot of points and putting up big numbers on their offensive stats. Big Sandy has scored more than 50 points in their last three contests, so Maud faces another tough challenge.
