I come out of those

I come out of those

I am a hunter, and the woods are my church.

I don’t need four walls, a pulpit, or a steeple to feel close to God. When I go into the woods, the trees are my walls, the sky is my ceiling, and the leaves, flowers, and budding branches are the decorations of my church—all made by God.

When the sun starts rising, that’s when God’s church opens in the woods. The birds are the choir, singing their morning praises. The deer slipped quietly through the timber. A mother bobcat and her two kittens make their way across an open field. The squirrels run from branch to branch, carrying on like they have somewhere important to be. And there I sit. Little old me. Sitting quietly among them, watching, listening, and enjoying God’s creation.

The greatest church on Earth.

I am a hunter, but sometimes

woods empty-handed.

And that’s okay.

Because God gives me something no deer, turkey, or other trophy ever could. He gives me peace and quiet. He gives me time to talk with Him.

The woods are my church. God is my preacher. His creation is His congregation. And when I walk out of those woods, I may not have heard a preacher deliver a sermon from a pulpit.

But I leave with a little more faith than I had when I walked in.

I just have to be quiet.

Watch.

Listen.

And enjoy God’s church in the woods.

Because sometimes the best sermons aren’t spoken from a pulpit.

Sometimes, they’re whispered through the trees.

Maybe that’s what the world needs more of today. Being quit, watching and listening as God talks to us.

God bless.
