Ernest Ray Atchley, age 91, of DeKalb, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, in Texarkana, Texas. He was born March 9, 1935, in Red River County, Texas, to Floyd Atchley and Frankie Ella Daniels Atchley.

Ernest was a retired automotive electrician for Red River Army Depot. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work. He loved to stay busy and was always willing to show up when he was needed.

Ernest believed in being dependable—and if he called, he expected you to show up, too. His strong work ethic, straightforward nature, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He attended State Line Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Frankie Atchley; two brothers, Roy Atchley and Willis Atchley; and four sisters, Imogene Maynard, Geneva Atchley, Dorothy Mae Hyman, and Kathrine Copeland.

Ernest is survived by his significant other, Luella Rediess of DeKalb, Texas; his four children, Gary Lee Dean and wife Patty, Jerry Ray Atchley and wife Claire, Larry Don Atchley, and Rava Walters; three grandsons, Kenneth Walters Jr. and wife Lacie, Tyler Charles Atchley, and Shawn Thomas Atchley; two granddaughters, Kasie Walters and Jennifer Medders; three great-grandsons, Dustin Medders, Jayden Walters, and Addison Walters; and one great-granddaughter, Emree Walters.

Ernest will be remembered for his hard work, dependability, and the many ways he was always there when someone needed him. He leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of dedication and service that will not be forgotten.
