Summertime is here and along with the trips to the beach, the days spent at the pool, and maybe a few hours spent at the splash pad in New Boston, people in Texas know they have to deal with the heat.

Temps will be rising and with that the heat index, so folks in NE Texas will soon feel the burn with triple digits becoming the daily norm. Though most have the luxury of air conditioning in homes and cars, many do not, and face the dangers of heat stroke and dehydration on a daily basis.

Thankfully, there are resources to help and one of those is Rock Solid Resource Center and their annual fan drive.

Rock Solid director Beth Little says, “We do it because we saw a need. Several years ago we started this, in 2020. Even that year it was pretty successful and we have a lot of people that benefit from it, especially the seniors. During the summer the seniors have to cut down on their electric bills. Some don’t even have air conditioning. But even those thoat do sometimes won’t run it, and they use fans. That is why we need to do this.”

The Chamber of Commerce in New Boston has again stepped up to do a match so that for every fan that comes in or is able to be purchased through donations, the Chamber matches it.

This year Rock Solid has also partnered with local flea market 82 Marketplace and they can be used as a drop off point for donations.

The effort will accept new or gently used fans or monetary donations, all going toward the purchase of fans in an effort to stave off the scorching Texas heat this summer.

If your Church, organization, family or you as an individual would be interested in collecting fans for our communities please give Beth Little at Rock Solid Resource Center a call at 903-277-2501.

If you would like to donate fans or a monetary donation, you can do it in person at the Rock Solid Resource Center building located at 201 East Main Street in New Boston during normal operating hours which are 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, or at 82 Marketplace located at 134 US Hwy. 82 in New Boston.
